Physiotherapy

The licensed, experienced and highly trained physiotherapists at East Hills Physiotherapy in Southeast and Northeast Calgary combine the science of healing with the authenticity of caring.

Our individualized programs of care focus first on pain reduction and restored function and range of motion to exercises and strategies to keep the problems from recurring.

We offer both the latest technology combined with hands-on manual therapy techniques to provide the best results.

Spinal Manipulation

Back and neck pain remains a primary reason why patients seek physiotherapy.

At East Hills Physiotherapy, we have a comprehensive treatment program to reduce pain and help you get back to your normal level of activity.

Spinal manipulation or spinal adjustment is used to apply pressure on the spine or a joint with the aim of reducing pain and improving function. This controlled force, carefully delivered, ranges from gentle to strong and slow to fast.

It is a safe treatment when done by a trained physiotherapist. You may experience some tiredness afterwards, but the pain is relieved.

Manual Therapy

Programs of manual therapy are particularly effective in reducing inflammation and starting tissue repair as well as improving function.

We take a traditional, hands on approach that works well with joint mobilization, range of motion restoration and soft tissue and deep tissue mobilization.

Acupuncture

This traditional Chinese medicine technique is used to treat a number of painful conditions including fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome.

It involves repeated penetration of the skin by thin metallic needles. The skillful practitioner works to correct imbalances of flow at points close to the skin and bring you relief from stillness and pain.

This is a customized treatment for each patient as the physiotherapist works with individuals to identify areas causing problems and then gently stimulate them with the needles.

Dry Needling

This is a customized treatment for each patient as the physiotherapist works with individuals to identify areas causing problems and then gently stimulate them with the needles.

Dry needling is an effective procedure that helps patients reduce both acute and chronic pain. It is designed to reduce muscle tension, promote healing and increase your range of motion.

Patients suffering from neck, back and shoulder pain, headaches, jaw pain, fibromyalgia or osteoarthritis of the joins and temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ) benefit from dry needling.

It involves having specially trained and licensed physiotherapists insert a disposable acupuncture needle into your skin and muscle tissue. The needle is directed at the myofascial trigger points that cause and refer pain throughout the body.

High concentrations of chemicals that cause pain can be found in these trigger points. When the needle is inserted, it helps to normalize these chemical levels and decrease muscle tension and pain.

Other than the tool used, it has no similarity to acupuncture.

Vestibular Rehabilitation

Most of us will experience balance issues at some point in our lives and when that happens, the likely cause is our vestibular system, one of our main balance systems that acts as a gyroscope for the body.

Symptoms of vestibular disorders include imbalance, vertigo, dizziness, frequent falls and migraines.

We use a number of techniques to help determine the source of the problem and correct it.

Gait and Balance Retraining

We offer gait analysis to scientifically study how you walk and run. It is helpful for patients whose ability to walk has been impacted by an injury or condition, and for people who want their bodies to perform better.

Our balance retraining therapies are effective in assisting patients who have been impacted by feelings of dizziness and imbalance.

Graston Technique

The Graston Technique® is an evidence-based form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables physiotherapists to effectively address scar tissue and fascial restrictions through comprehensive training, resulting in healing outcomes for patients.

It uses specially designed stainless steel instruments long with appropriate therapeutic exercise to specifically detect and treat areas showing soft tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation.

Motor Vehicle Accidents

We work closely with your doctor and your insurance provider to assist in your recovery following a motor vehicle accident. We will assess and diagnose your injuries and provide a customized program of physiotherapy to help you get back to your normal lifestyle as quickly as possible.
